Richard Bent

Richard Bent is a Silver medal holder from the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths and current National Champion in their Static Exhibits competition,  being hailed as one of his generation’s innovative Smiths who have made their name in creating contemporary art forms.  Richard has accepted invitations to tour, lecture and demonstrate at conferences in America and Canada and has influenced a generation of younger Smiths through his previous lecturing post at Hereford College.

His commissions have been varied in design and technical ability eschewing, but acknowledging the traditional and accepted ancient craft.

His love and admiration for many of the 'Modernist Scupltors' has led Richard to explore aspects of their style to develop his own designs using the immediacy of a variety of metals. A Civil Engineering background proved invaluable in overcoming technical difficulties allowing him to manipulate his medium into uniquely designed art forms admired and commissioned by innovative Civic and Public bodies, whilst increasingly appealing to clients establishing their own unique sculpture collection.
