Greg Ramsden RSMA
Ramsden's paintings combine the monumentality of the natural world with a nostalgia you might associate with faded postcards and distant memories. By working with subtle tonal shifts and sometimes a near complete absence of colour Ramsden achieves scintillating light effects as well as varied and rich brushmarks.
Ramsden is not only an awarding winning oil painter but a multi-award winning film producer. The past years has seen him win awards for his paintings and for his films.
His work has centred on Salcombe for the past 13 years. In that time his unique and exciting paintings have captured the life and light of Salcombe.
Ramsden works in many mediums and techniques, ranging from monochrome acrylics to experimental oil paintings. The techniques he applies are in order to explore ways of communicating his way of thinking.
Ramsden’s work was been hung in the Royal West Academy on multiple occasions.
His paintings have been hung for the last 7 years at Royal Society of Marine Artists. His work won the Winsor & Newton Oil Award in 2022 at the Royal Society of Marine Artists, Mall Galleries, London.
Last year Ramsden was awarded Full Member status of Royal Society of Marine Artists.
He achieved his degree in Painting & Printmaking from Sheffield University under the tuition of the realist painter George Shaw, a Turner prize finalist in 2011.
Ramsden first worked as an artists assistant to the international sculptor Heather Jansch. His painting career was jump started by winning the Lionel Aggett Award at the South West Academy of Art in 2009.
Ramsden Shows his work internationally with the American Gallery '1780's House'.
